A solo journey along the “border route”

An artcile in the Mille Lacs County Times tells the story of Stellar Mason’s solo canoe trip through the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness along the “border route” from Voyageurs National Park to Lake Superior. The 200 mile trip took Mason 17 days and provided her with challenging travel and insight into the value of wilderness:

“The wilderness is no different than the world in which we live,” Mason noted. “There are elements outside our control. It’s a lesson in adaptation and requires your complete attention. It’s hard to worry about work when the necessities of survival are paramount – heat, hydration, sustenance.
