Canoe the “urban wilderness” with the Friends

Canoeing the Mississippi River in Minneapolis and St. PaulExplore the wilderness in your own backyard!

Enjoy a fun urban canoe adventure with the Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness and Wilderness Inquiry. We will paddle down the Mississippi River Gorge in nine-person “North Canoes” for a few hours and have lunch afterwards at Hidden Falls Regional Park. Canoes, paddles, and lifejackets will be provided. The event is rain or shine, so be prepared for the weather!

When:
Saturday, September 26, 2009, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Where:
East River Flats to Hidden Falls Park, Mississippi River

Schedule:

  • 9:00 a.m. Drop off your car at Hidden Falls Regional Park North Gate and ride our shuttle to East River Flats
  • 9:30 a.m. Canoe from East River Flats to Hidden Falls
  • 1:00 p.m. Lunch at Hidden Falls (please bring your own bag lunch)

Directions to Hidden Falls Regional Park, North Gate

PLEASE NOTE: There are two entrances to Hidden Falls. These directions are for the upper or more northern entrance of the park. The lower or South Gate entrance of the park is about a mile south of the North Gate entrance.

  • From I-94 take the Cretin Ave Exit. The Cretin Exit is located between the 280 and Snelling Ave exits. Turn South on Cretin. Proceed for approximately 2.5 miles to Ford Parkway. Turn Right onto Ford Parkway. Just before the bridge, exit onto Mississippi River Blvd. The exit will be on the right. Turn left (south) onto Mississippi River Blvd. Go about 3/4 of a mile past the Ford auto plant. Turn right at the entrance to Hidden Falls. Go down the steep hill past the picnic pavilion to the boat launch/picnic area.
  • From the west side of the Mississippi, cross the river on the Ford Parkway Bridge. Take an immediate right on the east (St. Paul) side of the bridge and go left (south) on Mississippi River Blvd. Go about 3/4 of a mile past the Ford auto plant. Turn right at the entrance to Hidden Falls. Go down the steep hill past the picnic pavilion to the boat launch/picnic area.

Parking: Parking is available at the boat launch/picnic area. Your vehicle and belongings are left at your own risk.
