Two Mines. Two Watersheds. One Threat

In 2018, Minnesota DNR issued mining permits for PolyMet sulfide mining project. We are now dangerously close to opening the first sulfide mine in Minnesota’s history. The stakes have never been higher.

Many wonder why Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness fights against the PolyMet project, which would not directly affect the Boundary Waters.

PolyMet is the snowplow that will clear the way for more sulfide mines in northeastern Minnesota, including Twin Metals and numerous other sulfide mines that are being explored around the Boundary Waters. These mines would permanently damage the water, the wilderness, and the ecosystem that includes the Boundary Waters.

That is why we continue to fight against both PolyMet and Twin Metals.
