Learning from Friends: Making the Most of Your Charitable Donations

Virtual - Online

Thursday, November 30, 2023 – Noon (12:00pm central time)

We at the Friends believe that generosity is essential to a healthy society and planet.

We also believe that giving strategically is important: There are ways to help the causes you care about in a way that also makes sense for your finances, even through ups and downs in the market.

During the holiday season, roughly one-third of people make their annual donations, moved by both generosity and the December 31 deadline for securing tax deductions.

With this in mind, we asked Friends of the Boundary Waters supporter and Edward Jones Financial Advisor, Maria Taylor, to share some tips and insight when making your year-end charitable contributions and how to make them work best for you.

Maria will explore:

  • Donor-advised funds
  • Appreciated stocks and bonds
  • IRA contributions and qualified minimum distributions (QCDs)
  • Calculating the tangible and intangible impact of your giving
