Summary
This delightful trip takes you along the western perimeter of Quetico and brings you through scenic rivers and world-class lakes. While by no means an easy route, the trip is less demanding than many of the others featured on this site, and makes for a wonderful introduction to the glories of Quetico.
Overview
Beaverhouse Lake, where you begin, is a contender for the most family-friendly lake in Quetico. Easy access and sandy beaches make it a great place for kids (and grown kids) to play and relax. The main concern is the size, and the potential hazards brought by the wind. Therefore, it’s best to set out as early as possible to beat the afternoon wind.
From Beaverhouse Lake, you’ll go down the Quetico River. This involves a few short portages, and one longer 740 meter portage, around rapids. Fishing is generally good at the bottom of these rapids, so be sure to take your time and stop to fish. You’ll be headed against the current upon reaching the Namakan River, but the river is generally wide and current is manageable. Wolseley Lake is big and depending on your schedule you might want to take a couple nights here before returning.
