Quetico - Silver Falls Day Trip

Summary
For those who have limited time or want to include a trip into the Quetico as part of their Gunflint Trail vacation, this day excursion brings you to one of the most scenic areas in the park: Silver Falls. For those who want to extend their trip, (or don’t want to wake up early to get started!) this trip can easily be extended into an overnighter.

Overview
Most people will reach the Cache Bay Ranger Station from Saganaga Lake, a massive, and beautiful lake, at the end of the Gunflint Trail. You will need a day permit for the Boundary Waters to travel through this lake, and because it is such a large lake, subject to winds, many people opt to take a motorized towboat to the Ranger Station at Cache Bay. Because you are entering Canada, you will need both a Passport and a Remote Area Border Crossing (RABC) permit as well.

After checking in with the ranger at Cache Bay, travel through the narrows until you reach Silver Falls. You’ll want to spend some time exploring the area, soaking up the sights and fishing (there is great walleye fishing beneath the falls). From here you can either return or continue for a short loop though the southern part of Saganagons. For those wishing to stay out longer, and want to see more waterfalls, you can easily continue to the scenic Falls chain.

Go halfway down trail, fish beneath falls – great for walleye fishing. Great scenic trip or day fishing trip.
