About Thomas Flint

The Thomas Flint Memorial Fund was started in remembrance of Thomas Hunter Flint. Tom was raised in Minnetonka, where he was introduced to the Boundary Waters both through camp and his father Richard Flint, an outdoor advocate and Boundary Waters enthusiast. Thomas loved the Boundary Waters and the trips he took there with his family and friends. In 1990, at the age of 24, Thomas was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident. As a tribute to his love of the Boundary Water, Thomas’ family created a memorial scholarship program in his name. The purpose of this fund is to give children from diverse and under-represented communities the opportunity to experience the pristine beauty of the BWCA. Since first created, this fund has helped to expose more than 500 young people to the national treasure that is the Boundary Waters. Thomas’ family hopes that through this fund and other programs, underserved kids will have the opportunity to explore the Boundary Waters for generations to come.
