Take Action: Tell Gov. Walz to Cancel NewRange’s Lease

Executive Order 26-10 directed the DNR to strictly enforce state mineral leases in the Boundary Waters’ watershed. NewRange just handed the DNR its first real test.

NewRange, the PolyMet–Teck joint venture, wants to drill on a state lease that has been in default for fifteen years. Its proposed copper-sulfide mine could send pollution into the Boundary Waters and Lake Superior, two of the cleanest waters in the country. Tell Governor Walz and the DNR to reject the drilling plan and cancel the lease.
