Up the Trail – Gunflint Trail Conversation Event

What’s at Stake for the Boundary Waters — and What We’re Doing About It
Join Friends of the Boundary Waters for an evening of conversation, connection, and candid talk about the threats facing the Quetico-Superior wilderness.
The Boundary Waters is facing some of the most serious threats in its history — from proposed copper-nickel sulfide mining in the Rainy River watershed to the accelerating impacts of climate change on boreal forests and freshwater ecosystems.
On Wednesday, July 8, Friends of the Boundary Waters invites you to an intimate community briefing at the historic Northern Lights Lodge at Gunflint Lodge & Outfitters on the shores of Gunflint Lake. Friends staff will walk through the current landscape of environmental threats facing the region, share how Friends is responding, and open the floor for questions and conversation.
This is a small, informal gathering for people who care deeply about the Boundary Waters. Come ready to listen, ask questions, and connect with others in your community who share your commitment to protecting this place.
What we’ll cover:
- The risks posed by sulfide mining proposals in the Rainy River watershed — and what they mean for the Boundary Waters and downstream ecosystems
- Climate change and its long-term implications for boreal wilderness
- How Friends is leading on policy advocacy, scientific analysis, and public education
Light refreshments will be provided. Space is limited — please RSVP to reserve your spot.
